“I have always been fascinated by cinema and its ability to shape human conscience.My passion is shaping and forming movements: movement of image, sound, and emotion to create a story. I bring stories to life.”

Mohamed Salah

I was always interested in knowing more about the human psyche and that is why my first degree was a BA in Psychology, Faculty of Arts, University of Alexandria (2001). Later, I studied film directing at the Jesuit Film School in 2003 with the short fiction Psychotine 10 ½ mg as a graduation project in 2005. I also received a diploma in Film Editing from New York film Academy in 2009 and a color correction training from ICA “International colorist Academy”, Los Angeles, USA.

I received early success with my first long feature film Gozor (Islands). Produced in 2007, it is considered one of the first independent long features in Egypt and the Arab region at large. It was warmly received by critics and the public alike, and invited to a number of international festivals. Its premiere was in the feature film competition at the Festival International de Programmes Audiovisuals (FIPA), France. I was also selected to participate in the #5th edition of the Berlinale Talent Campus of the Berlin International Film Festival in the same year.

however, I also work as a director, I have a varied background that includes everything from directing to editing. Over the years I have been able to implement my artistic vision in wildly professional experience in different areas, including features, experimental, video art, documentaries, music video, promos, TV programs, broadcast, and others.

I am primarily a

film editor;

During the previous ten years, I focused on editing, and was appointed Head of Film Editing Unit at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA)– the new Library of Alexandria in 2018 until now. Leading a team of 4, I supervise the work related to all film editing at the BA TV Studio, as well as other roles including directing.

Participated in creative meetings to assist in developing ideas and defining project deadlines. Supervised editing, dubbing and color correction as part of post-production.

As Senior Editor, I worked on the six-hour mini-series Horizons: Exploration in Science Old and New (2013), considered one of the early scientific documentary productions in the region. This gave me a huge experience in how to transfer abstract and complex scientific ideas to an interesting visual storytelling.

. I also worked in other projects including The Journey of Writing in Egypt 2016 which participated in the TAC International Film Festival (The Archaeology Channel Origin) in USA and the Rassegna Internazionale del Cinema Archeologico, Italy 2016. Meanwhile, my past works were featured in many Networks such as MBC, Dream, CBC, etc.

Most recently, I edited the music video Zayak Ana (2015) for Massar Egbari band, with +3 Million Views

My passion for cinema culminated in working on initiatives to support different aspects of cinema, including critical film writing. In an attempt to develop an epistemology for cinema in the Arab World, I co-founded Tripod – an online film magazine with the aim to enrich the online Arabic content in film criticism, cinema studies, and cinematic theories.

My passion for visual storytelling allowed me to also develop visual concepts and narrative through photography, while exploring new places and people.
